University President Attends "Forest Management to Achieve Sustainable Environmental Development" Workshop

On Sunday, the 21st of May 2023, His Excellency King Khalid University President, Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, attended a workshop at the University City in Al-Fara'a on "Forest Management to Achieve Sustainable Environmental Development", which was organized by the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Center for Research and Environmental and Tourism Studies.

The workshop aimed to encourage active participation in the scientific planning and implementation of studies, projects, and research pertaining to the preservation and sustainability of forests, as well as to provide the necessary programs to achieve environmental protection goals at a level consistent with the ambitious goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The workshop targeted  the public and private sectors, as well as the residents of Souda and Tanumah and interested university students and staff.

During the workshop, and in the presence of the University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Hamed bin Majdou Al-Qarni, Dr. Edward Mansour, Director of the Forestry Department at the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, delivered a presentation on forests improvement to achieve sustainable development. Further, Engineer Ahmed Al-Nami spoke about the importance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and big data to achieve the goals of sustainable development, while the Center Director, Dr. Rahma Al-Jurais, gave a visual presentation on the forest rehabilitation experiment project in Asir.

The workshop concluded with His Excellency honoring the participants and contributors to the project to rehabilitate forests damaged by fires in the region.
