King Khalid University 2022 summary report comes to highlight KKU’s most prominent achievements over the past year as an eminent pillar in Asir region development strategy and the primary educational institution in the region. This year’s achievements and success reflect KKU’s effort towards delivering its national duty as an educational institution and a contributing entity in achieving our national vision 2030.

 

University Environment 

One of the top achievements in KKU’s 2022, was the university transition to the new university city in Al-Qara’a. This transition took place in the beginning of the year where the university entities and faculties moved to a new modern campus in an area of 8 million square meters. Another transition took place when a number of female campuses moved to the university city in Greger, and the postgraduate students reported to the new postgraduate buildings in King Abdullah Road campus. The university environment in 2022, also witnessed the completion of 11 projects carried out by the University Projects Agency, in addition to the launch of a number of projects and initiatives to improve, develop and afforest the university environment, and provide service centers.

 

Scientific Research 

In the field of scientific research, the university witnessed a strong presence of qualitative activities during the past year. This came in the registration of 26 patents, and the publishing of 5297 research papers in scientific journals classified in various fields, in addition to the number of citations that reached 12258.

 

The university city in Al-Qara’a also witnessed the establishment of central laboratories, which include 67 research laboratories, through which the university seeks to enable scientific research for various sectors in the entire southern region. Moreover, the priorities of published research papers focused on the environment, agriculture, life & health sciences, in addition to advanced materials.

 

 

Conferences, Workshops and Meetings

During the year 2022, King Khalid University hosted multiple important personalities and events, most prominent of which were the "Prince Muhammad bin Salman Foundation (Misk) Ceremony - Voice of the Youth Program" and the "Asir Investment Forum". The university also witnessed the "Visit of the Ambassador of Japan" and the "Visit of the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates".

 

 

In the field of scientific programs, the university held a series of conferences, reaching 4 in various fields, including the “The Future of Interdisciplinary in Saudi Universities According to Vision 2030” conference, the Saudi International Medical Education Conference SIMEC 2022, the “Narrative Discourse and Stakes of the Age” conference, as well as the "Education & Renewable Roles" conference.

 

The university also held a series of workshops, such as: "Professional Certificates", "Developing the Investment Environment and Increasing the Revenue at King Khalid University, “Establishing the Colleges of Tourism & Hospitality and Architecture & Planning” Protection of Public Funds” and a Compulsory Training for a period of 6 Months - in Cooperation with the Ministry of Education in the Universities of the Southern Region. The university also held multiple workshops for the “Saudi Google Community for Developers Within the Technological Event Tich Trip”, in addition to “Preparing Asir Students for National and International Competitions”, “Aligning the Strategic Plan of the University with the Asir Development Strategy (Qimam wa Shiam)”, as well as 41 other workshops.

 

The university also held a series of forums and meetings, most notable of which were the "Strategic Partnership between Secondary Education and Postsecondary Education - in Cooperation with the Ministry of Education" meeting, the "51st meeting of the Committee of Medical Colleges Deans in Saudi Universities", the " GCC Twentieth e-Learning Meeting”, the meeting of “Promoting the Values ​​of Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Work Environment – ​​in cooperation with the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority”, as well as the “Sobriety of Scientific Research and Publishing” forum, which was organized by the College of Science and Arts in Khamis Mushait, and the “First Scientific Forum for Science and Arts” organized by the Applied College Branch in Rijal Almaa.

 

 

Volunteering Social Responsibility

During the past academic year, King Khalid University sought to facilitate the practice of various volunteering activities in accordance with the control frameworks. Further, the university was dedicated to developing the volunteer work system, create a supportive environment to encourage university students to be volunteers, provide all available opportunities for community participation, by arranging a variety of programs, 169 of which were implemented with 26878 beneficiaries, while the number of community training programs reached 420 programs with 36107 beneficiaries. Additionally, many partnerships and agreements were signed, amounting to 27, while the number of volunteers reached 1545 from 38 parties at the university, in addition to the availability of 1088 volunteer opportunities with more than 189 thousand volunteering hours. 

The university provided its services through 6 digital platforms, which benefited 130 thousand trainees, making KKUX at the top of these platforms and offering 40 skill courses through 1600 educational videos.

 

 

 

Quality & Development

The development and quality sector during the past year had an abundant share of achievements, as the university dedicated its efforts to achieve the strategic goals related to quality assurance and academic accreditation by creating the 2030 strategic plan for the university, aligning it with the strategies of the Ministry of Education, the Human Capacity Development Program, as well as the strategy of Asir Development “Qimam wa Shiyam”. The university also obtained national program accreditation for 25 academic programs, in addition to completing international accreditation visits for 8 programs.

 

 

E-Learning

The university sought to enhance the quality and efficiency of the educational process and transform aspects of it to be creative, interactive and skill developmental. Further, the Deanship of E-Learning made unremitting efforts during the year 2022, where 1179 faculty members and 810 students were trained, in addition to training 60 instructors for Professional Certificate - foundation level. Moreover, the deanship reached 67,067 views and 1,248 subscribers through the “Tamkeen” YouTube channel.

 

Also, during the year 2022, the Deanship of E-Learning received many awards, which embodied the excellence of the Deanship. The awards included the OLC Award (2022), the Open Education Global Award (2022), the Shield of Excellence in Digital Transformation in Education from Anthology (2022), in addition to the Black Award Board 2022- Education and Learning Branch.

 

 

Academic Practices

Within the framework of developing the academic field, the academic year has shifted to the three-semester system. The university has also worked on conducting an English language proficiency test, applying exemption and acceleration processes in English language courses, approving the new structure of the Applied College, and developing study plans. Furthermore, the university launched flexible learning pathways, in addition to promoting international student training during the summer period, as the number of students who were trained internationally reached 1,225 students.

 

Structure and Administrative and Financial Efficiency

During 2022, the university was able to enhance the concept of organizational efficiency and raise and improve the competitiveness of the organization. Through

several measures the university aimed to achieve higher performance efficiency such as changing the name of several university entities and reforming its structures to align with the university strategy and goals. In addition, the university also worked on archiving the national digital transformation project accrual basis of accounting, the Institutional Excellence Award and Expenditure Efficiency & Project Authority Excellence Award as well as enhancing the development aspect in the university Human Resource field through implementing 53 training programs in which 5925 participants took part in.

 

International Classification

King Khalid University has sought to achieve everything that contributes to strengthening its institutional and academic status and reputation at both the regional and international level, and to reach  the highest level of quality outcomes, and from that the university ranked 640th  in the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities, 25th  in the Times University  Arab University Ranking, 301 out of 400 Times classification of sustainable development goals, 622nd globally and 5th locally in the classification of green standards for international universities.

 

 

Digital Transformation

Digital transformation at King Khalid University during the year 2022، was considered an essential part of its work context due to its critical role in the Kingdom's 2030 vision.  Through the University’s Information Technology Administration and with the collaboration of the university entities KKU achieved digital transformation through the development of 13 electronic systems, in addition to the completion of infrastructure projects and the establishment of 30 VDI virtual computer labs. The university, represented by the General Administration of Information Technology, ranked third at the level of education and training agencies in the Kingdom in digital transformation.

 

Entrepreneurship

The entrepreneurship sector in KKU received great attention this year represented in the inauguration of King Khalid University "Code" in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the organization of many programs in partnership with "Monshaat", as well as the launch of the "King Khalid University Incubator".

 

Competitions and Awards

In the year 2022 King Khalid University held an abundance of competitions and awards, most notably the International Competition for Arabic Calligraphy, the University Award for Excellence, the King Khalid University Programming Competition, the “Ramadan Qur’an” competition, and other awards and competitions that aimed to enhance efforts, stimulate energies, and create competitiveness.

 

Students Activities

In the field of student activities, the university was keen to mark its role through carrying out 1,106 student activities, of which 49,144 benefited. In addition, King Khalid University students won 8 local and Arab awards in the year 2022.

 

 

International Students

During the year 2022, the number of international students witnessed a large increase, reaching 2,430 international students from 75 countries. International students in KKU are enrolled in   various academic degrees in the university’s faculties,  415  of which are  studying in the Arabic language unit for non-native speakers.
