Mohammad Al-Saqr, Among the Top 3 CIOs in the Kingdom

The General Director of Cybersecurity and Assistant Professor in the Information System department in King Khalid University's College for Computer Sciences Dr. Mohammad Al-Saqr, was selected as one of the top 3 Chief Information Officers (CIO) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 27 candidates. This came during the IDC summit 2022 in recognition of his efforts in leading the Information and Technology (IT) Department between 2019 and 2020 and achieving digital transformation in the university.  

Al-Saqr is considered an eminent person in the field of technology and cyber security across the kingdom. Al-Saqr holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Claremont Graduate University, a certified practitioner certification in Change Management from PROSCI institute, and a chief information security certificate from CCISO. 

Dr. Mohammed Al-Saqr, is known for his passion for multiple fields of technology, including data governance analytics, IT management, digital transformation, cyber security, the fourth industrial revolution technologies, technological innovation, as well as the field of adapting smartphone applications for health purposes.

Al-Saqr has held several positions within King Khalid University and outside of it.  Among his  most  significant roles; were his role as Vice-General Director of the IT Department, General Director Assistant of the General Administration of Cybersecurity, Director of the research sector at the Artificial Intelligence Center in the university, Vice-Dean of the College of Computer Sciences for Academic and Educational Affairs, Chief of Information System sector, Director of the administrative and financial system project "ERP", as well as his academic post as an Assistant Professor and laboratory member in "IDEA Labs" for research and innovation at Claremont Graduate University.  

Al-Saqr's professional career is full of remarkable achievements and several awards in the field of technology, including his honoring by His Highness the Governor of Aseer region for his technical work during the pandemic, and the champion prize in WSIS 2020 for leading "GoGeek" project. Further, Al-Saqr achieved the university's best department management in 2020 for the management of IT department. He also launched the university’s new electronic portal and the "MyKKU" application for smartphones. He led the university's digital transformation project, raising the university ranking from the 14th to the 2nd in the training and educational sector rankings for the year 2021.

Additionally, he founded the data management unit in the IT department and led the development process and the launch of the Decision Support System (DSS) "QARAR". In a string of successes, Al-Saqr is also a member in a number of committees and counsels, among which is  his membership in the Design and Digital Platforms Unit, his membership in the General Administration for Investment, his membership in Aseer's Health Advisory Council, his membership in the Subcommittee of Cybersecurity in the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Sector, his membership in the Supreme Committee for Information Technology and Electronic Transactions, as well as his membership in the Supervisory Committee for Cybersecurity.

On the occasion of his latest achievement Al-Saqr, thanked the wise leadership for their devoted efforts to enhancing the digital infrastructure in the Kingdom. He also expressed his gratitude for their commitment to keeping pace with the latest technological advancement, implementing digital transformation in all sectors, being one of the leading countries in all technology fields, and adapting technology to serve the country and its citizens. 

In the same context, Al-Saqr thanked the university led by His Excellency the University President Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Alsolami, stressing that His Excellency spares no effort in preparing the university to become among the top outstanding international universities by implementing the latest technologies in all academic, administrative and research fields, as well as serving the community.

Al-Saqr, noted that digital transformation is a never-ending journey, urging the university to continue its mission in this field and to maintain its excellence.
