King Khalid University's College of Medicine and the Saudi Scientific Society for Medical Education (SSME) will be hosting the annual Saudi International Medical Education Conference (SIMEC) from April 7-9, 2020. This is the Middle East's premier biennial conference for medical education, research, and healthcare development. This event attracts participants from around the globe, and the organizers have already accepted more than 80 research abstracts.

Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Suliman Al-Humayed, explained that the attendees will address numerous topics concerning medical education, the changing landscape of healthcare both at home and abroad, and strategies for the practice of modern medicine. This year the College of Medicine will celebrate its 40th anniversary at an ancillary meeting between the college's medicine committee and representatives of other Gulf nations.

SSME Chairman, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Amri, explained that SSME is the official national committee for medical education development in the Kingdom, and has been operating continuously since 2002. "This year's conference preparations started back in March of last year. The organizers formed a committee of experts from around the Kingdom specializing in a variety of medical/education disciplines. The organizers also invited medical experts from other nations to present lectures and research papers. There will be 15 workshops covering topics such as medical education curriculum development, teaching methods, and academic guidance," said the Chairman.

SSME representatives will award and prizes for both oral and written presentations, learning resources, and student abstracts. Both male and female medical students will participate in all aspects of the conference.
