Saudi Medical Colleges Stem Cells Donation Event

His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, supported the event held by the Faculty of Medicine on Tuesday morning. The Creativity and Medical Club started a campaign to acknowledge the importance of stem cell donation in association with the Saudi Stem Cells Donor Registry (SSCDR).

His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy was also introduced to the objectives event and was provided with a brief description of the importance of stem cell donation awareness. SSCDR's procedures were highlighted by explaining that if a possible stem cell donor is found in the database to be a good match for a recipient, steps are taken to teach the donor about the transplant process and make sure he or she is making an informed decision. It was further highlighted that people who might benefit from stem cell therapies include those with spinal cord injuries, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, stroke, burns, cancer and osteoarthritis.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Sulaiman Al-Humaid, also confirmed the importance of Stem Cell Donations and the necessity of societal awareness. He noted that such awareness is accomplished by intensifying campaigns in this field. Of noteworthy mention, this campaign comes as an extension of the previous event held in summer 2019 that lasted for 3 days in different locations around the region.
