University celebrates World Day for the Disable.

Under the slogan "University without disability", King Khalid University, represented by Direction and Guidance Unit of the Deanship of Student Affairs on Monday, celebrated the International Day for the disable. On behalf of the Rector of the University, Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Aldawood, the celebration was sponsored by the Vice President for Health Specialties, Prof. Khalid Al jelban, in the presence of the General Manager of Social Affairs in Asi,r Professor Abdul Hakim bin Jibran.

In a speech delivered, Prof. Al Jelban, expressed how honorable it was to attend such celebration with his brothers with special needs, who number one billion at the level of the world, noting that such a large number needs to take advantage of their abilities. He said "The university is always working to establish the concept of dealing with people with disabilities academically, appreciating their involvement in all the affairs of the university, from planning to exceution, with the creation of appropriate conditions for them in all respects, such as designing appropriate buildings, to get them fully integrated in the university community" Al Jelban explained that that day was to review what had been implemented for people with disabilities.

For his part, the Head of Direction and Guidance Unit,, Dr. Saeed Al Ahmari said that such celebration was a kind of sympathy for the children with special needs whom the university boasts of. Dr. Al Ahmari said, "All what disability can do is to impede mobility only, but it is not an intellectual disability, so people with special needs have the right to take active participation in all matters that can improve their lives and health conditions in various social, cultural, and economic areas.

The ceremony included recitation sections and a word by Professor Ammar Ibn Haitham Boks, who is nicknamed as "Impossible Tamer" and who was born paralyzed from birth in the United States. However, he completed his high school, from where he obtained a rate of 96 %. Moreover, prof. Boks memorized the whole Quran when he was 13 years old, and it took him about two y ears to complete the memorization. Now, he is suffering from paralysis in most of his body organs, and he cannot speak except only with the assistance of electronic devices in his ears. Despite all of this, he succeeded in completing his university studies.

It is noteworthy that the event witnessed the establishment of a companion exhibition which contained several participation from various entities, such as Education Administration in Asir, the charitable Association of the Blind "Kafeef" in Riyadh, the Faculty of Education of KKU, the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Asir, the Society of disabled children, as well as the College of Applied Medical Sciences.
