University applies barcode system in its restaurants.

King Khalid University, IT Directorate

The General Directorate of Information Technology (IT), in collaboration with Student Affairs Deanship, which is represented by Food Administration, has launched barcode system. The system enables the students of the University to get their portion of food easily and conveniently. A student can just do this in an electronic way through a barcode on his university card. The system is able to recognize the student's data and his current record as well.

In case the student lost his card, the system is prepared to register the number manually. The student's data are restored electronically in order to complete meals purchase. The system also has extra advantages for the system administrator and vendor. It can print a schedule for purchase process including day, month, and year. In addition, the system can provide time and prices of meals, and the allowed number. The system can also provide vendors' settings, it can grant powers, and it also allows one to present electronically an identification to food services that are provided in the University headquarters and in its branches as well.

It is noteworthy that the IT Directorate, before launching the service, made a training program for the system users, and made a trial on some students in the main branch of the University and the Preparatory branch in Al-Mahalah. It is expected that the system will be applied in other branches of the University in the next phase.
