University launches "Your health in words."

King Khalid University, Media Center

King Khalid University, represented by the club of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences in Khamis Mushayt, has contributed in the increase of awareness of the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic, which takes place on global dimensions. It was through the launch of "Your Health in words" and "Together for the elimination of tuberculosis (TB)" effectiveness. Through arranging such activities, the university aims at participating in any event that will get rid of this disease, which currently affects one-third of the world's population. The events targeted those who are infected with active TB, those who suffer from latent TB infection, people who are in direct and prolonged contact with those infected, health-care workers who have direct contact with wounded tuberculosis, in addition to the elderly, and people who suffer from weak immunity diseases such as patients of AIDS, and individuals at risk, such as those with low income.

It is worth mentioning that the discovery of the tuberculosis is due to Dr. Robert Koch (in 1882) when he identified the bacillus causing the incidence of tuberculosis. The discovery was the first step toward diagnosis and treatment, through the recent pursuit of the World Health Organization to reduce TB incidence and mortality rates by half by 2015 (compared to 1990). Thanks to the adoption of the world plan to stop TB.
