His Excellency the President of King Khalid University, Prof. Faleh bin Raja Allah Al-Solami, has issued an administrative decision to establish the "Office of Interdisciplinary Studies and Programs" under the supervision of the Vice Presidency for Educational Affairs. This initiative aligns with the demands of national development and the evolving needs of the labor market, in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030 and the university's strategic objectives.

Prof. Saad bin Mohammed bin Dajam, Vice President for Educational Affairs at King Khalid University, explained that the office aims to coordinate and organize academic efforts to launch interdisciplinary programs combining multiple specializations. This effort seeks to offer innovative educational solutions that promote integrative knowledge and research.

Bin Dajam emphasized that the office will focus on redirecting programs in certain colleges with surplus graduates to better meet market needs. It will also prepare graduates who are flexible and capable of adapting to rapid changes across various sectors. Furthermore, the office will oversee the implementation of interdisciplinary programs by establishing governance policies and procedures to ensure their alignment with global academic standards. It will also monitor the academic performance of participating colleges and prepare periodic reports to continuously enhance and develop the quality of the programs.

The office will foster collaboration between colleges by providing effective communication channels that allow faculty members to exchange expertise and develop shared curricula. It will utilize existing academic resources to achieve operational and economic efficiency, avoiding the need to establish new facilities or hire additional faculty members, thereby reducing financial costs while maximizing the use of available resources.

Additionally, the office aims to improve the quality of education and its outcomes by offering innovative interdisciplinary programs designed to enhance students’ skills and enrich their knowledge through a blend of theoretical and practical approaches. This will better prepare students for the labor market and increase their employability. The office also seeks to establish local and international academic and industrial partnerships to provide training and research opportunities that develop entrepreneurial and innovative skills.

Bin Dajam added that this initiative reflects the university's commitment to sustainable development by introducing educational programs that support the knowledge economy and reinforce its position as a leading educational institution locally and globally. The establishment of the office is expected to strengthen the university’s research capabilities by encouraging interdisciplinary research that addresses societal challenges through innovative solutions. It will also elevate the quality of academic education by offering integrated programs aligned with global best practices, enhancing the university’s ranking, and increasing financial returns by attracting students to distinctive programs that meet their academic and professional aspirations.

This initiative underscores King Khalid University's dedication to institutional excellence and its commitment to enhancing academic and administrative efficiency by building a flexible educational system that meets national development needs. It also reflects the university’s ambitious vision of preparing qualified graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to actively contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 goals and enhancing the Kingdom's position on the global academic and research excellence map.
