KKU Secures Three Silver and Bronze Medals at Horeca World Exhibition in Riyadh
King Khalid University – General Directorate for Institutional Communications
The College of Tourism and Hospitality at King Khalid University, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs, proudly participated in the Horeca World Exhibition, held from November 25th to 27th at Riyadh’s Exhibition and Conference Center. This platform served as a valuable opportunity to showcase the students’ culinary talents and creativity.
What distinguished the university’s pavilion was its celebration of Aseer’s rich cultural heritage. Students presented a variety of traditional dishes with a modern twist, most notably incorporating the traditional Aseeri dish Alareeka into a waffle recipe—maintaining its essence while giving it a contemporary flair. Hot and cold beverages were also served in styles that reflected Saudi Arabia’s heritage and culture. Visitors were further immersed in the experience through displays of traditional Aseeri attire, which they commemorated with photos.
In the Best International Chef competition, judged by an international panel, the university achieved remarkable success by earning three medals. Ms. Hanan Ahmed, a lecturer from the College of Culture and Arts, won a bronze medal for her entry in the Best Cold Sandwich Dish category. Ahmed Fathi, a student from the College of Tourism and Hospitality, and Raghad Al-Qahtani, also a student from the same college, both secured bronze medals for their contributions in the Best Cold and Hot Appetizer Dish (Mezze) category. Additionally, Saif Al-Din Al-Zouadi, a trainer from the College of Tourism and Hospitality, earned a silver medal in the Meat Dish category.
Commenting on the university’s participation, Dr. Ali bin Misfer Al-Qahtani, Dean of Student Affairs, emphasized that it reflects King Khalid University’s commitment to empowering students and supporting their engagement in both academic and extracurricular activities at local and international events. He commended the creativity, innovation, and excellence demonstrated by the students of the College of Tourism and Hospitality.
Dr. Riham Mashat, Dean of the College of Tourism and Hospitality, echoed these sentiments, affirming the college’s ongoing pursuit of excellence and innovation. She highlighted the college’s dedication to offering and enhancing cutting-edge educational programs in tourism and hospitality. Dr. Mashat also noted that this participation represents a significant step in discovering and nurturing student talents, aligning with the college’s mission to foster innovation and uphold the highest standards of quality.
