University President Witnesses the Launch of “World Diabetes Day” Activities at the University Medical City

His Excellency, King Khalid University President, Prof. Falleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, inaugurated the “World Diabetes Day” activities and programs organized by the University Medical City at Al-Faraa. The event was attended by the CIO of the Medical City, Prof. Fouad Abq, along with faculty members and students from the College of Medicine, at the University Medical Conference and Seminar Center.
The university’s “World Diabetes Day” activities featured a range of sessions, talks, lectures, blood sugar screenings, and general medical tests. These events, spanning two days, targeted patients at the Medical City as well as members of the local community.
Dr. Tahani Musleh Al-Milbi, Head of Pharmaceutical Services at the Medical City and Director of the “World Diabetes Day” activities, explained that the programs aligned with the global observance of World Diabetes Day. She emphasized that the initiatives aimed to highlight advancements in diabetes treatment, shed light on the latest studies and research, enhance the skills of medical practitioners in managing emergencies, and raise awareness about insulin usage. Additionally, the activities encouraged the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach to improve collaboration and health outcomes for patients.
One of the highlights of the event was a program certified by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, titled “The Complete Approach to Managing Diabetes.” This program attracted over 430 registrants and consisted of two main sessions.
The first session, “Innovation and Strategies in Diabetes Care,” featured contributions from researchers and specialists. Key presentations included:
“Updates in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes” by Dr. Hanan Al-Shahri
“Transformations in Diabetes Management: New Horizons in Treatment” by Dr. Ghada Al-Asabi
“Enhancing Diabetes Treatment: New Treatments and Effective Care Strategies” by Dr. Abdullah Asiri
“Health Education for Patients on New Treatment Options and Dietary Changes to Control Blood Sugar” by Ms. Salma Al-Zilaie
The event concluded with two scientific sessions focusing on critical aspects of diabetes care for specific groups:
“Dealing with Emergencies in the Life of a Child with Diabetes” by Dr. Shahd Al-Hamid
“Diabetes Management for Heart Patients: Strategies to Improve Outcomes” by Dr. Iman Shurooq
Additionally, Prof. Samia Al-Halawi delivered a lecture titled “How to Use Insulin and Complications of Misuse.” Both sessions included open discussions with participation from numerous researchers and specialists, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and expertise.
