King Khalid University Organizes a Workshop on "Using AI Tools to Generate Academic Questions and Assessments"

Under the patronage and attendance of the Acting President of King Khalid University, Prof. Saad bin Mohammed bin Dajam, the University Agency for Educational Affairs organized a workshop entitled "Using AI Tools to Generate Academic Questions and Assessments" at the University City in Al-Fara'a.
The workshop included several sessions presented by a group of academics and experts in the field of education and technology, where various topics were discussed on the use of AI tools in the academic field. The workshop began with an opening session presented by the Acting President of the University, in which he addressed the importance of using AI tools to generate academic questions and assessments. He pointed to the importance of keeping pace with modern technologies and benefiting from them in developing the educational process. He also stressed the prominent role that AI tools can play in improving the quality of education and providing more accurate and effective assessment methods.
In his speech during the workshop, bin Dajam said, "King Khalid University is committed to providing everything new and advanced in the field of education, and we always strive to invest in modern technologies to develop the educational process." He added, "The use of AI tools can significantly improve the quality of education and provide advanced educational experiences for our students." He concluded by saying, "We are proud to organize such workshops that reflect the university's commitment to developing the skills of faculty members and raising the level of university education in line with the latest global technologies and innovations. The interaction and active participation of the deans of the colleges reflect their desire to keep pace with developments and benefit from them in developing the educational process."
This was followed by a session on benchmarks and studies in the use of AI tools, presented by the Advisor to the President of the University and Supervisor of the Strategy and Initiatives Management, Prof. Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al-Sya’ri, where highlighted the journey of the university student and the practices of global universities in the field of artificial intelligence, such as Harvard University, the University of Sydney in Australia, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and University College London.
As part of the case studies, a study entitled "ChatGPT vs. Humans in Creating Multiple Choice Questions for Medical Board Exams" was presented by a group of researchers. 50 questions were generated by ChatGPT and 50 other questions by university professors, and the results were compared between the two. Another study entitled "Large Language Models in Medical Education: Comparing ChatGPT-Generated Exam Questions with Human-Developed Questions" was also presented by a group of researchers, where two sets of questions were created and students compared the questions generated by ChatGPT with those created by humans.
Then, the Advisor to the University Agency for Educational Affairs for Strategic Planning, Dr. Asma Khamis Al-Ghamdi, presented an introductory session on AI tools in generating academic questions and assessments. She explained the importance of using AI technologies to improve the quality of the educational process and provide innovative solutions for preparing questions and assessments.
The activities concluded with a practical application session for generating questions using AI tools, presented by the Vice Dean of the College of Engineering for Research and Graduate Studies, Advisor to the Vice President of the University for Educational Affairs, Dr. Saad bin Fahad Al-Jabar. The process of entering basic information, question formulation standards, and generating questions using artificial intelligence was reviewed. The questions were then reviewed and audited to ensure their quality and effectiveness.
The workshop was attended by the deans of the university's colleges and a group of specialists in the field of education and technology. The university aims through these activities to develop the capabilities of faculty members and raise the level of university education in line with the latest global technologies and innovations. This workshop will be followed by a series of similar workshops aimed at enhancing knowledge and exchanging expertise in multiple fields related to artificial intelligence and modern technology.
