Acting University President Reviews Development Plans with College of Dentistry Advisory Council Members

King Khalid University Acting President Prof. Saad bin Mohammad bin Dajam, welcomed the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Prof. Mohammad bin Ali Al-Qarni, alongside members of the Advisory Council of the College, in his office at the university city in Al-Fara'a, where he was briefed on the progress of academic accreditation and the strategic and developmental plans of the college.

During their meeting His Excellency stressed the critical role advisory councils play in developing academic environments, he commended the council’s experts and praised their administrative and academic contributions.

On his part, the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Prof. Mohammad bin Ali Al-Qarni, explained that the council includes national and international members, including prominent figures and renowned experts. The council aims to link the college's outputs to the needs of the labor market in the public and private sectors, achieve community partnership with sectors and civil society institutions, benefit from national and international experiences in making decisions with a community impact, and involve a number of beneficiaries in the management and direction of the college's programs.

After the meeting members of the Council went on a tour of the university city in Al-Fara’a, which included an introductory program to the university and the Asir region, a visit to archaeological, tourist and heritage sites. They also visited the central laboratories and clinics of the University Dental Hospital.

It is noteworthy, that the council held its third in-person meeting at the college, chaired by the Dean of the College and attended by the members of the council in its current session.

Saudi council members include: Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Al-Rafei, President of Riyadh Al-Elm University and the former Director General of the Department of Dentistry at the Saudi Ministry of Health, and Prof. Ahmed bin Mubarak Al-Qahtani, a member of the Central Council for Accreditation of Health Facilities and a member of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Association for Dentistry and the former Dean of the College of Dentistry at King Saud University and a former advisor to the Minister of Education, and Dr. Reem bint Mohammad Al-Dulaian at the Ministry of Health and Head of the Dental Professional Council at the Saudi Authority for Health Specializations.

From the Asir region, the council includes: Dr. Khalid Saeed Al-Qahtani, Director of the Dental Administration at the Asir Health Affairs Directorate, and Dr. Saeed Muhammad Qud'an from the Armed Forces Hospital in the Southern Region, and a representative of the private sector in dentistry in the Asir region and representatives of the college graduates from the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

International members of the council include: Prof. Manukari Shetty, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Face and Jaws and Head of the Diagnostic Units at the College of Dentistry at the University of Western Cape and a member and advisor to the World Health Organization and the University of Western Cape Joint Oral Health and Diseases Research Center in South Africa, and Dr. Osama Omar Al-Amin, former Deputy President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, and a current member of its board of directors and former head of the Department of Continuing Medical Education at Trinity College Ireland, and a professor at Dublin University Hospital in Ireland.

As well as the council members from the college, Dr. Adel Saeed Al-Obeid and Dr. Abdul Aziz Saad Abu Mulaha.

It is noteworthy that the College of Dentistry is one of the most important health colleges at King Khalid University and has a university dental hospital that includes about 400 clinics.
