University Announces New Strategy to Develop Scholarships and Enhance Academic Excellence

Under the patronage and attendance of the Vice President of King Khalid University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Hamed bin Majdou' Al-Qarni, the university's Scholarship and Training Department organized an open meeting with the university's lecturers and assistants entitled "Scholarship: Reality and New Policies" at the university city in Al-Fara'a. Vice Deans for research and graduate studies were in attendance, with the participation of the Administration of the English Language Localization Program at King Khalid University (EF), alongside a number of lecturers and assistants at the university's colleges.
Al-Qarni stressed the great role that scholarships play in achieving the ambitions and hopes pinned on lecturers and assistants, saying: "The university's agency for graduate studies and research pays great attention to scholarships, and strives in cooperation with the scientific departments and colleges to achieve the desired goals." He added that the university is about to adopt a new scholarship strategy that is consistent with our leadership’s objectives in various fields, including the field of graduate studies, as well as with the university's strategy. He explained that this strategy will include indicators to measure these goals.
Al-Qarni reviewed a number of initiatives presented by the agency, including the initiative of the English Language Localization Program at King Khalid University through a partnership with the company (Education First), which is a global company specialized in the field of teaching English. He explained that this initiative is an exceptional example at the level of Saudi universities, and aims to help lecturers and assistants by sending them internally for a full year to study English, and to obtain the required degrees for academic acceptance in graduate programs such as the IELTS test and the TOEFL test.
For his part, the general supervisor of the Scholarship and Training Department, Dr. Yahya bin Ali Al-Mari', delivered a speech in which he confirmed the importance of this meeting, and its great role in shaping the academic future of universities.
The meeting reviewed some features of the new scholarship strategy, including limiting scholarship to the top 200 universities in the world according to well-known international classifications. It also encourages scholarship students to obtain joint degrees and professional certificates, and to participate in enriching research and innovation at the university level. In addition to adopting indicators and means to measure the outputs of the scholarship in light of the objectives of this new strategy.
Mr. Kenan Deemersi, Director of the Administration of the English Language Localization Program at King Khalid University, participated in this meeting, and stated that this program is just one of hundreds of programs offered by the company (EF) in more than 100 countries around the world. Mr. Kenan explained that one of the goals of the English Language Localization Program at King Khalid University is to help lecturers and assistants obtain the required degree for academic admissions through one of the tracks of this program, which is the intensive academic track that consists of 22 teaching hours per week. He pointed out that a large number of lecturers and assistants who have enrolled in this program have achieved the required score in the IELTS test.
Mr. Kenan explained that the objectives of this program are not limited to that, but rather extend to helping lecturers and assistants obtain academic admissions from prestigious universities. A considerable amount of time was allocated during this meeting to answer the questions of lecturers and assistants and listen to their suggestions.
