University Vice-President: Great responsibility on the university towards handicapped.

King Khalid University Vice - President, Prof. Mari Hussein Al-Qahtani has confirmed that the university shouldered a great responsibility towards students with disabilities, and it was the duty of the university to help them through the provision of a preventive process preceding the disability process, in addition to supporting researches that served that side. He stated further that the responsibility of the University might extend to the treatment stage, making it easier for that class of people to enjoy their academic life. He pointed out that even after graduation, the University could follow its students' future circumstances.
This assertion was made during Al-Qahtani's sponsorship of the activities of the International Day of Disability, which came up on December 3, 2014. Organization was held today 12/2/1436, and prepared by the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Guidance and Counseling Center, with the participation of both the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences. The venue of the events were at Abha University City. Upon his arrival to the venue, he cut the ribbon as a mark of opening the activities. After that, he visited the exhibition stands, which contain many of the services necessary to students with special needs. Then he listened to students' presentation in which they showed the basics of proper care for this precious segment of people.
On this occasion, the Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Merra'e Saad Alhabash gave a word. He said, "This day is intended to raise awareness of disability, and the best ways to deal with it, thereby, contributing to the handicapped integration in the community, and providing them with a life of independence and stability". He further said, "Arguably, our Islamic Religion sought to preserve the inherent dignity and equality, and preserve the rights of all members of the human families. Hence the annual celebration of the International Day for the Disabled was created to enhance understanding of disability's related issues, and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disabilities."
At last, it was the time for a number of lectures by the Faculty of Education. Dr. Mohammed Yahya Safhi presented a lecture on "The importance of Guiding and mobility arts, and daily life skills for the blind", Dr. Rabie Abdel Raouf Amer presented another lecture entitled "The art of dealing with a person with a kinetic disability", in addition to a lecture for Dr. Esmat Mohammed Fawzi about "The needs of the mentally handicapped children".
