Asir Traditional Literature and Dialects Forum

The Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Hamid bin Majdou Al-Qarni, opened the Third Forum for Graduate Studies, on behalf of His Excellency, the President of King Khalid University. The forum was entitled "Asir's Traditional Literature and Dialects", and was organized by the College of Arts and Humanities, under the Arabic Language and Literature Department at the Graduate Studies Building in Abha.

The Vice-President opened the forum with a speech where he confirmed that the agency is signing a partnership with the Arabic Language Care Project, which focuses on Arabic research publishing and translation. The project has Arabic researchers' best interest in mind as it serves their needs and help further their excellent and enriching output. He praised the efforts of the College of Arts and Humanities in research and in organizing such exceptional events and programs.

The Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Khalid Abu-Hikma, sent his best regards for the President of the University for his continued support of the college and its departments, and the special care and attention he provides for such forums. He highlighted the Arabic Language Department's immense efforts in organizing specialized events for graduate studies, which stems from its core belief in language as a central pillar in various aspects of life. He pointed out that these forums aim for various goals, which include elevating research, creating bonds, exchanging expertise, and providing a platform for researchers to showcase their work. He concluded by praising the University Agency for Graduate Studies and Research for providing the needed support of research and researchers.

The President of the Arabic Language and Literature Department, Dr. Yahya Al-Latini, explained that the third forum for graduate studies comes in accordance with the Year of Arabic Poetry 2023, and in line with the kingdom's interest in heritage studies. He confirmed that dialects and traditional literature reflect the region's heritage, which is of great interest to educational institutions and researchers. Al-Latini highlighted the importance of the Study of dialects and what it reveals about the history of the language. He added that many researchers in the Arabic Language Department are indeed showing interest in the study of dialects.

The forum included three sessions presented by specialized elites. The first of which included four papers:

  • Southern "Ardha" Poetry.

  • Dialectic Diversity in Asir: Causes and Effects.

  • Children's Literature in Asir's Spoken Heritage.

  • Traditional Literature and Identity.

The second session included three papers:

  • Analysis of Phrases of Tact in the Dialect of Asir

  • Traditional Heritage in the stories of Mohammad Ali Alwan

  • Between Asir's Proverbs and Classical Arabic (Al-Fusha).

The third session also included three papers:

  • Dialectic Codex: Characteristics and Methods.

  • Eloquence in the Saudi Dialect.

  • Individual Efforts in Collecting, Archiving, and Studying Traditional Literature in Asir: Ali Mughawi as a model.

To conclude the forum, the Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Research and the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities Honored the Participants.
