King Khalid University continues to present its specialized courses through the Unit of Bees Research and Honey Production. The university believes in the importance of the unit and its positive projections on the development of the region's natural resources, by raising the standards of workers' skills and enriching their knowledge and experiences pertaining to the development of the productive and investable environment of bees and their products.
The unit serves beekeepers and people who are interested in the field through a series of courses, and applied and theoretical seminars. It recently organized its twenty-second workshop, entitled "Beekeeping Fundamentals", which attracted more than a hundred beneficiaries.
The president of the Unit of Bees Research and Honey Production at the university, Prof. Hamid bin Ali Al-Qahtani, explained that the course included many specialized theoretical seminars in the field of beekeeping, and scientific experiments at experimental laboratories related to dissection and bees-products. As well as testing the quality of honey and bee disease, and training on all bee-related operations at the university's training apiary.
Al-Qahtani added, the unit aims to develop honey production in the kingdom through applied research, training, guidance, and transferring modern technologies. It also provides counseling and training to beekeepers and other related authorities in cooperation with the ministry of environment, water, agriculture, and cooperative organizations.
The Unit of Bees Research and Honey Production at King Khalid University has earned five international awards, obtaining first and second placements for 'Best Honey' during its participation in the Arabic association's second international conference for beekeeping, and the Asian Beekeeping Association's fifteenth conference in 2019. It also placed third for 'Best Honey' at the international conference (Africa Bee Expo), which was held in Tunisia back in 2019. The unit earned two awards at the 2023 international Paris competition for best honey in the world.
