Commemorating World Day for Safety and Health at Work, KKU Reviews the Roles of Occupational Safety and Health Department

On April 28, the world commemorated the World Day for Safety and Health at Work in an effort to solidify the idea of safety and health in the workplace, improve worker protection, and provide a secure environment for employees.
Drawn from its mission of preserving the health and safety of university workers, and excellence in spreading social and cultural awareness in the university, King Khalid University's Occupational Safety and Health Department, one of the bodies connected to the General Facilities Administration of the University's Agency, plays a crucial role in its field of specialization.
Ali bin Abdullah Al-Ahmari, the department's director, confirmed that the department's duties include developing executive programs and plans and putting them into action to protect lives and property within the university city and the various university branches, as well as working to implement safety procedures in the various university buildings and facilities, particularly in laboratories and workshops, along with implementing preventive safety measures during projects to avoid mishaps, injuries, and property damage, ensuring that institutions and businesses operating within the university adhere to safety regulations at work sites, following up on the upkeep of safety equipment and firefighting tools, providing training on how quickly to take safety precautions, taking part in the creation of plans for evacuation and rescue situations.
Al-Ahmari detailed some of the duties performed by the Occupational Safety and Health Department over the previous time period, including the development of a number of guidelines and procedural manuals, conducting fire drills on the university campus, leading inspections of offices and student accommodation to verify that safety regulations are being followed, in addition to taking part in a number of events and seminars, putting on workshops, and offering training courses for different audiences.
