King Khalid University & King Salman Global Academy Celebrate World Arabic Day

On Thursday, the 22nd of December, King Khalid University, in partnership with the
King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, organized an event to celebrate
the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, under the slogan "The Contribution of
the Arabic Language to Human Civilization and Culture". The ceremony took place at
the Celebration Center Auditorium in the University City of Al-Qara’a. It also
witnessed the presence of the Vice President for Education and Academic Affairs,
Prof. Saad bin Dajem who attended the event on behalf of His Excellency the
University President.

In a recorded speech delivered by His Excellency the University President, Prof.
Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, he stressed that King Khalid University is part of the
national system that dedicates its care and attention to the Arabic Language and
facilitates its education and consolidates its values. He also noted that the university
has many Arabic language departments that include specialists in all subdisciplines of
the Arabic language and distinguished local and international names in the field of
national culture, in addition to the university Arabic language teaching center for non-
native speakers, online platforms for teaching Arabic language, and a translation unit.

In his speech, the representative of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic
Language and Director of the Language Testing Department at the academy, Dr. Fahd
Al-Olayan, expressed his appreciation to King Khalid University for holding this
symposium and celebrating their partnership with the academy. He stressed that the
academy is pleased to cooperate with the university and various relevant authorities in
all activities to promote the presence of the language of civilization and human
culture, showcasing some of the efforts made by the academy.

On his part, the Dean of the College of Human Sciences, Dr. Khaled Abu Hikmat,
said in his speech during the ceremony that the occasion of the World Arabic
Language Day represents a great opportunity to start a substantive scientific discourse
on language issues in general and the Arabic language in particular. Therefore, this
occasion is a real opportunity to work hard on promoting the language, noting that it
is also a chance to invite specialists to group workshops, which extend throughout the
year to accomplish major projects, which would serve the Arabic language in all
aspects. He also stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provides great support to
promote the Arabic language in all fields, pointing that the King Salman Global
Academy for Arabic Language is one of the entities provided by our wise leadership
to promote the language by setting great goals for it to cover different scientific and
cultural areas.

The event included a symposium, moderated by Dr. Ahmed Al Murei, entitled "The
Contribution of the Arabic Language to Human Civilization and Culture". The
symposium discussed four papers: "Language is an Endless Bridge of Civilization"
by Prof. Abdullah bin Ouaqel Al-Solami, a paper from Prof. Nawal Al-Thunayan
entitled "The Promotion of Common Human Values in Arab Texts", a paper from
Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Muhsini titled “The Digital Challenges of Arabic and
Prospects for Enhancing the Continuity of Language in Building Human Civilization
and Culture.”, in addition to a paper entitled “Images of the Influence of Arabic
Literature on Persian Literature.” presented by Dr. Siham Al-Aboudi. An art
exhibition organized by the students at the College of Home Economics at the
university also accompanied the event. The exhibition displayed fabrics and paintings
embroidered in the Dhad Language alphabet and in Arabic calligraphy in an attempt
to highlight the beauty of the language and the artistic shapes of its alphabet.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Saad bin Dajem, and the representative of the King
Salman Global Academy, Dr. Fahd Al-Olayan, honored the participants in the
symposium, the recipients of international awards in the field of the Arabic language
for the year 2022 among the university’s employees, in addition to the winners of the
student competition.
