Energy Conservation Initiative Underway

King Khalid University - Media Center

Vice Rector, Dr. Mohammed Al-Buhairi, issued a directive contemporaneously with the initiative entitled "The Energy We Don’t Need Today Shall Be of Use Tomorrow", which is supervised by His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy. The initiative serves to reduce campus-wide energy consumption and facilitates energy reduction efforts. With the support of His Royal Highness, Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the initiative is designed to optimize the energy efficiency of control systems, heat recovery systems, and lighting systems.

Implementing a partial shutdown of air conditioning and water heating systems to selected buildings on campus is central to the initiative in that it will save energy, emissions and costs. Areas around the campus selected for the shutdown are generally offices and teaching spaces, which contain electrical equipment or appliances. Additionally, it was noted that all the unnecessary lights will be switched off, including street lights.

Department of Operation, Maintenance and Technical Affairs Director, Eng. Amer Zaylaie, pointed out that his team immediately responded to the call by developing a plan to rationalize electricity use in all the facilities, which do not require continuous electricity. He confirmed that this procedure will achieve the rationalization of energy costs and use. It will also achieve high standards of quality in operation efficiency and use.
