King Khalid University participated in an event hosted by the Almadinah Almunawarah Development Authority titled 'This is Al-Madinah'. Representing King Khalid University was Dr. Ali Marzouk, supervisor of the Urban Heritage Research and Study Unit.

Dr. Ali Marzouk explained that his lecture, 'Problems with Critique Speech -a Semiotic Module', first served to spread the culture of art critique and also served to activate increased cooperation between and among King Khalid University and several government authorities.

Dr. Marzouk provided a brief introduction to semiotics at the beginning of the lecture. He described it as one of the most important critique approaches. He also confirmed that semiotics will solve the absence of critique. "Semiotics is an effort that tries to study the signs and unveil was is not noticeable to the naked eye," he said. The lecture included a semiotic analysis of some works from the event's exhibition, focusing on the Saudi artist Noura Al-Qahtani and the Syrian artist Salah Sayes.

At the end of the lecture, Saudi Art Association Director at Al-Madinah, Mansour Sharif, honored Dr. Marzouk with a medal and a certificate memorializing the occasion.
