The Department of the Fundamentals of Jurisprudence at the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion recently hosted a discussion with a number of government officials representing various agencies. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss creating an executive jurisprudence master's program at King Khalid University. This initiative is part of the university's Wakab program. This program is in support of the Vision 2030 objectives to enhance the legal system to facilitate commercial development in the Kingdom and serve the national labor market.

Representing the university at the meeting was Vice Rector of Academic Affairs, Dr. Saad Muhammad Du'ajim. The other participants are members of the program advisory group including representatives of:

• The Court of Appeals of the Court of Justice;
• The Director of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Asir;
• The Head of the Islamic Education Department at the Public Education Administration;
• The Director of the Advisory Committee at the Emirate of Asir;
• The Director of Authorities in the Public Security Administration in Asir;
• The National Academic Accreditation and Evaluation Center;
• A number of professors of jurisprudence from King Khalid University and other universities from around the Kingdom.

The supervisor of the project and former head of the Jurisprudence Department in the College of Sharia and the Fundamentals of Religion, Dr. Mohammad bin Motab Al-Kurdam reiterated that the national development plan and Vision 2030 require new higher education programs that will support national development goals. He further explained that advanced education in law is an important element of fulfilling national objectives, and that the master's program would focus on the practical applications of jurisprudential theory.

The meeting at the university was very productive. After lengthy discussion, the panel agreed upon and recorded a number of recommendations and proposals regarding the creation of a master's program in jurisprudence at the university. Members of the panel will submit their findings to the appropriate parties for review and consideration.
