University Scores Big in Fifth Annual Olympic Competition

This month, King Khalid University conducted the 5th Annual Olympic Games here at the main campus. The games included a variety of different sports spanning 25 days of events. The competitions included: an indoor soccer league, volleyball championship, table tennis championship, judo, karate, and other martial arts.

After weeks of intense but friendly competition, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Aideed, officiated the closing ceremony of the games. Also in attendance were a number of illustrious college deans and valued university employees. In his closing speech, Dean Al-Aideed praised the rigorous competition among the colleges and congratulated the individual competitors for their skilled and team-spirited performances. Dean Al-Aideed extended his sincere gratitude to His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy for his continuing support of the annual games. Dean Al-Aideed further congratulated all of the associates and affiliates who diligently worked to ensure the success of the 5th Annual Olympic Games.

Over the past 25 days, there were many exciting competitions. While we cannot recount every one, a few of the highlights are as follows:

  • The final indoor soccer game came down to the Faculty of Sharia vs. the Faculty of Applied Medical Science. In a hotly contested match, the Faculty of Sharia prevailed after scoring a magnificent seven goals;
  • The College of Engineering outscored the College of Education in the volleyball championship;
  • In individual sports, gold, silver, and bronze were taken by Abdulaziz Ahmed, Abdulmohsen Al-Qahtani, and Ayman Abdullah respectively;
  • In two-player sports, gold, silver, and bronze were taken by Riyad Al-Wadai/Saud Hussein, Abdulaziz Ali/Saud Musa, and Atif Al-Shehri/Yusef Al-Shahrani respectively;
  • At the conclusion of the event, all martial arts contestants and champions were recognized.

“These games were yet another successful annual event. The 5th Annual Olympic Games promotes healthy competition, rigorous exercise, and university spirit. This increases the university’s faculty/student engagement and public stature,” said Dean Al-Aideed.
