Investing in the Past to Build the Future

His Excellency King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, sponsored the '88th Saudi National Day Event: Investing in the Past to Build the Future.' The event was organized by the College of Humanities and represented by the Department of History and the Asir Region Saudi Historical Committee on the 15th of Muharram 1440 AH.

Rector Al-Solamy launched the event by opening the Art and Photography Exhibition where he delivered a speech congratulating the Saudi Government and people. "Under the aegis of our visionary leadership may we celebrate every year in peace and prosperity," said Al-Solamy. He then thanked the College of Humanities, the History department, and the Asir Region Saudi Historical Committee for their efforts towards the success of this event, which aimed to highlight the Kingdom's achievements, success, and plans for a better, brighter, bolder future.

Dean of the College of Humanities, Dr. Yahya Al-Sharif, thanked Rector Al-Solamy for his generous sponsorship. He also extended his thanks to the organizing committee and parties that ensured the successful operation of the event. In his speech, he emphasized the critical role our government undertakes in securing the progress of our country. The event included 5 sessions that discussed multiple topics: (i) Saudi 88th National Day: Progress and Productivity by Dr. Saad Al-Qahtani, (ii) The role of KKU's Research Center in Documenting National Events by Dr. Ahmed Fae, (iii) The Saudi National Digital Document Project and its Role in Social Development by Dr. Abdulrhamn Al-Muhsin, (iv) The Kingdom’s Effort in Supporting Charity Work by Dr. Saad Al-Qahtani, and (v) Preparing the National Day Art Exhibition by Dr. Ali Al-Marzoqi.

At the end of the event, Rector Al-Solamy conferred the National Photography Competition awards to the winners. In the professional photography category, Fajr Al-Shehri took home first place. Zaid Al-Zaid followed in second place, Muflih Al-Habbabi in third place and fourth place, and Owad Al-Harbi in fifth place. In the photojournalism category, Mohammed Al-Malki took home first place. Ammar Al-Mulhim followed in second place, Abdul Wahab Al-Alami in third place, Zuhair Al-Tarifi in fourth place, and Saud Al-Enezi in fifth place.

The 88th National Day celebrations were held on all campuses for two days on the 15th and 16th of Muharram.
