Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings: King Khalid University in the Top 150

King Khalid University ranked 140th on the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings in 2020. Emerging economies are those nation-states who are advancing and developing rapidly with respect to business, economic activity, technology, and social reformation.

 

Vice Rector for Development and Quality, Dr. Merzin Al-Shahrani, explained that this ranking achievement is a direct result of the university's strategic vision and goal to break the top 200 ranking of all universities by the year 2030. A crucial requirement is for King Khalid University's recognition by the international community for scientific research and developments in practical applications of technical achievement. This will assure the university's success both in reputation and in alumni performance in the marketplace.

 

International Classifications Unit General Supervisor, Dr. Sami Al-Shehri, explained that the ranking by Times Higher Education is one of the most prominent international rankings for institutions in emerging economies, and requires excellent performance in 5 major areas of operational effectiveness. The classification standards are as follows: (30%) on education, (30%) on scientific research, (20%) on research citations, (10%) on industrial performance and (10%) on international outreach. The classification also includes 13 performance indicators with balanced ratios used to assess the quality of all of the university's academic and research efforts.
