King Khalid University, represented by the Department of Physics, hosted Professor of Physical Chemistry and Building Materials at Ain Shams University, Egypt, Dr. Salah Abdul Ghani Abou Al-Einein, to establish a scientific symposium on nano-materials and cement to assess the energy performance of residential buildings in Saudi Arabia, and for the development of advanced materials to help in the rationalization of energy consumption in the Building Sector in the light of technical development to keep up with the findings of modern science in this area. The seminar was held over a week to discuss three main points in three lectures presented by Dr. Abou Al-Einein. The first, entitled “The scientific and safe usage of industrial solid waste in the field of building material technology with the aim of protection and environmental development”. The second lecture was entitled “Physio-chemical and mechanical characteristics of pulp, cement, and hardened concrete”. In the final lecture, Aboul Einein talked about the use of polymer particles and nano-metrics to improve the physical and mechanical properties of slurries of cement and hardened concrete. Within this visit, there were a number of visits and meetings. The most important was a tour of the Research Laboratories, the Department of Physics, and a meeting with the Dean of the College, and another meeting with research groups in the Department in addition to the open scientific discussion that will be organized by the Department.
