SABIC supports scientific research at the University with a million Saudi riyal annually.

The King Khalid University has received a financial support reaching a million Saudi riyal from the Saudi Company for Basic Industries "SABIC" annually. The gesture from the company is within the framework of the cooperation between the university and the private sector. The action is to promote research excellence in the university, and to activate research activities in order to achieve the objectives of the parties, in addition to support conferences, seminars and investment within the unique scientific and academic experiences.

For his part, the Dean of Scientific Research who is also the Secretary of the Council of Scientific Chairs Dr. Eid bin Lafi Alotaibi explained that he had conducted a meeting which included the Rector - Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Dawood, the University Vice - President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Majid bin Abdul Karim Al Harbi, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Hussein Alwadi, as well as the representatives of SABIC. During the meeting, new frameworks of research partnership between SABIC and King Khalid University (KKU) were searched. Alotaibi stated, "Joint higher committee will be formed soon from both parties in order to supervise the preparation of annual research work plans in the areas of excellence. The work plans will be in the research fields of petrochemical, metallurgy, and advanced materials studies.  The cooperation comes in the light of the new trend of SABIC, whose aim is to activate and promote investment in the university laboratory potential and human capabilities. The new trend of SABIC also aims at raising support limits in order to promote provided research output, leading to innovations patent and industrial products that could support the knowledge economy of this dear country".
