University Hosts Workshops in Mandarin and Mathematics

King Khalid University - Media Center

The Community Service Unit at the female College of Science hosted a workshop titled 'The Basics of Mandarin'. Ms. Fadwa Al-Raqedi led the program and covered some of the language fundamentals such as vowels, consonants, and writing/speaking letters and numbers. She also reviewed common expressions.

The Community Service Unit also hosted another workshop titled 'Using Technology to Teach and Learn Mathematics Using GeoGebra'. The workshop took place at the Education Department's professional development center in Khamis Mushait and was delivered by Dr. Aisha Al-Duraimi, Supervisor of the College's Mathematics Department. Teaching math using GeoGebra is beneficial because the strategy encompasses elements of algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics, and number theory. The workshop subjects also included the fundamental purposes and use of GeoGebra. The presenter also reviewed some practical engineering models using the program.

The workshop aimed to encourage the students to rely on themselves to explore and understand mathematical relationships during class. This facilitates turning mathematical concepts into useful knowledge. This educational development is just one aspect of improving technical education in support of Vision 2030. More than 120 female trainers have benefited from the programs, including female employees, students and mathematics teachers.

Assistant Dean of the College of Sciences, Dr. Badria Al-Sarhan, noted that these workshops are an important element of educational development at the university level. She also said that she looks forward to more programs in partnership with the Education Department to fulfill national objectives.
