Webometrics rankings released last July ranked King Khalid University as the 9^th best university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and 1653 at the international level. The Webometric system uses numerous indicators to determine the ranking that includes but is not limited to size, visibility, rich files, and citations. King Khalid University's administration has commended improvement registered in the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. At the country level, King Khalid University joined the top 5, which is 4 places up from its ranking last year. Globally, King Khalid University was ranked 1251, registering an improvement of 402 places.

The Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Agency and the Deanship of Scientific Research attributed the marked performance to improved research, as one of the key indicators for the ranking methodology. They cited the increasing number of citations, which reached 85,357, as the main catalyst in addition to an improved website in terms of design, content, and visibility.

Of noteworthy mention, the International Classification Unit at King Khalid University is in contact with leading institutions and organizations to exchange views and share best practices on how to maintain and improve global reputation and influence.
