University Organizes Chemical Leak Evacuation Test

King Khalid University's General Safety and Security Administration in collaboration with the Asir Civil Defense Authority and the College of Engineering organized a Chemical Leak Evacuation Test in the engineering studios at the main campus. The Civil Defense Authority took part in the evacuation with 10 officers from the Department of Dangerous Resources and Accidents represented by the Monitoring Unit. The University participated in the preparation and organization of the test through the participation of 12 staff members from the Safety and Health Administration, staff members from the University Security Administration, the Directors of the Occupational Safety and Health Department, and University Paramedics.

The General Supervisor of the General Administration of Safety and Security, Ali bin Mohammed Al-Qahtani, said that the test aimed to enhance the awareness of the culture of safety among university students. Further, he noted, it aimed to educate students on the importance of an evacuation plan and the procedures used in emergency situations.

Director of the Safety and Occupational Department, Jameel Ali Al-Qahtani, explained that the conditions for the test were set by employees of the Safety and Occupational Department. The fire alarm system was activated, and the building was completely evacuated with the help of faculty members who directed students to the appropriate exits. Of noteworthy mention, the building consisted of two floors with over 45 studios and labs, which were all evacuated when the Civil Defense arrived. Director Al-Qahtani emphasized that this test was a success with all objectives achieved in 3 minutes and 50 seconds.
