Narrative Discourse and the Challenges of the Age Conference Day One

The international conference "Narrative Discourse and the Challenges of the Age", organized by King Khalid University represented by the College of Humanities (Department of Arabic Language and Literature), witnessed on its first day a lecture and 4 scientific sessions, which included 19 research papers presented by a group of specialists from different countries of the world.

On the first day of the conference Dr. Mufleh bin Zabin Al-Qahtani, chaired the first session, which discussed four research papers, the first of which was titled “Narrative Discourse: Approaches in Terminology and Concepts” by Professor Dr. Omar Abdulaziz Al Hamod, the second paper "Narrative Discourse, towards the rooting of the term" was presented by Dr. Maryam Al-Qahtani, while the third paper discussed "Arabic Narratives between Foundation and Representation" by Dr. Abdul Alim Muhammad Ismail, and the session concluded with a paper presented by Dr. Khadija Murat entitled "Narrative Discourse and the Mechanisms of Semiotic Analysis”.

The second session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Qassem Asiri, during which Dr. Samiha Al-Bouzaidi presented a paper entitled “Narrative Discourse and the Narrative and Historical Problem in the novel (Storms of Bird Island: Rain and Locusts) by Jilali Khalas, while Prof. Dr. Abdul-Waseh Al-Humairi presented a paper about “The Narrative Structure “” followed by a paper by Dr. Saida Hamdawi entitled “Narrative Representation of History in the two novels (Fitna of Jeddah) and (Safar Berlik).

The third session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Yahya Fadlallah, during which Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Zahrani presented a paper entitled “Linguistic Levels in the Novel (Baroud)”, while Ms. Maryam Al-Fardan discussed

“Dual Language in the Novel (Nar Al Markh) by Awad Shaher Al-Osaimi. Follwed by Dr. Ahmed bin Awad Al-Salama who presented a paper entitled “Linguistic Confusion and Its Impact on the Narrative Text,” which is an applied lexical approach to the novel “A Small Death”, finally , Dr. Ayman Mahmoud Muhammad Ibrahim discussed the art of translation by Mahmoud Al-Tanahi, which is a textual reading in his translation.

The fourth session of the conference was chaired by Dr. Omar Al-Harthy, during which Dr. Hamid Al-Shimy discussed “The Discourse of Foresight in the Modern Narrative, from the Ideological Pattern to the Cultural Pattern”, while Dr. Saadia Al-Bashir presented a descriptive study on the manifestations of ideology - the mask of interest in the Arab novel, and addressed Dr. Sultan Al-Khar’an in his research “The Ideology of the Novelist Place – Riyadh November 90 Novel by Saad Al-Dosari as a Model”. The session was concluded by Dr. Naima Boulkaibat with a research paper in which she discussed the interpretation of ideology in the contemporary Algerian novel.

The conference also included a lecture presented by Dr. Taher Al-Jalob, during which Prof. Dr. Said Yaqtin discussed narrative terminology in post-classical narrations in addition to Prof. Hassan Al-Naimi presented a cultural reading on the status of poetry in narration.
