Under the Patronage of His Royal Highness and in His Presence King Khalid University Celebrates World Stuttering Awareness Day

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness the governor of Asir Region Prince Turkey bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, King Khalid University celebrated International Stuttering day in the presence of representatives from both private and governmental entities.

The celebration coincides with the International Day of Stuttering, with the aim of raising awareness of a condition that affects approximately 1% of the world's population.

On this occasion His Royal Highness Prince Turkey bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, expressed his appreciation towards our wise leadership , thanking it for the attention and support devoted to the development of Asir region. His Royal Highness also inaugurated the audiology and speech pathology laboratories at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Abha, and the speech pathology research unit, through which the university will work to increase research production in this field. The inauguration coincides with the university receiving the first batch of bachelor students in the field of audiology and speech pathology.

In his speech His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, welcomed His Highness, the governor of Asir region, noting the efforts of the Emirate of Asir in taking care of cases of stuttering.

Al-Solami said, "As we continue to celebrate the launch of the Asir region development strategy, we realize that everyone is looking forward to witness

an effective and renewable role for the university in contributing to the development industry. He stressed we commend and appreciate the effort , support and generosity of our wise leadership and his Royal Highness the governor of Asir region in the development of the region.

The event included a plenary session moderated by Aisha Makroui - a recovered stuttering case . The session discussed a number of important topics, and included the participation of specialists from the field of medical rehabilitation for speech disorders ,a family of stuttering patient , and a teacher specialized in following stuttering cases.

It is worth noting, that King Khalid University is the first Saudi university to offer two separate programs for audiology and speech pathology.
