“Appreciating the Elderly” a symposium celebrating the International Day of Older Persons

King Khalid University represented in the Deanship of Community Service and Continuous Learning, organized in collaboration with the Collages of Medicine and Education an online symposium. The symposium was entitled “Appreciating the Elderly” to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, it introduced the ways to physical and mental care of the elderly. A group of experts in family medicine and psychological counseling participated.

The symposium started with a welcoming speech delivered by the Vice Dean of Social Responsibility Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Qarni. Then, the Vice President of Business and Knowledge Economy Prof. Abdul Latif Al-Hadithi announced the opening of the symposium. The member of Asir Region Council, the Chairman of the Family Affairs Committee, Dr. Saad Al-Ghanoum, delivered an opening speech in which he shed light on the Kingdom's role in promoting family bonding and respecting the elderly.

Dr. Ayoub Al-Sheikh and Dr. Haifa Al-Hafzi viewed in their participation, how to care for the elderly. They discussed ways to raise their immunity, and the benefits of physical activities and regular check-ups. Dr. Gebran Makhdi’s participation introduced the characteristics of mental health issues and needs to older people.
