Establishing Genome and Personalized Medicine Unit

His Excellency the University President Prof. Falleh bin Raja Allah Al-Sulami, issued an administrative decision to establish a unit for personalized medicine and genomes, as a part of the Deanship of Scientific Research.

The Vice President of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Prof. Saad bin Abdulrahman Al-Amri, explained this unit aims to provide a safe and integrated research environment for researchers. In addition to attracting and strengthening local and international collaborations in various sectors; to exchange experiences. And publishing the research papers and studies in scientific journals to enrich the Saudi scientific content. As well as carrying out scientific research and granitic studies to discover diseases and identify the their causes. And evaluating and identifying the environmental and genetic factors that affect a patients response to a certain treatment. And offering diagnosis, counseling and awareness services. In addition to reducing health care costs by diagnosing patients who will catch, most likely than others, certain diseases, and determining the appropriate treatment for them.

Al-Amri pointed the Unit includes labs for protein, DNA sequencing and gene expression, bioinformatics, bacterial and virus genetics and pharmacogenetics and metabolites, and a clinic for genetic and metabolism counseling.
