King Khalid University's Special Needs Center at the Deanship of Student Affairs is celebrating the 45th Arab Deaf Week between April 20-27, 2020 in cooperation with all deaf service providers in the Asir region and in conjunction with the Arab Federation of Organisations Working with the Deaf. This year's celebration has been named "The Right of Deaf to Get Married and Support by Community Institutions". The Special Needs Center announced that it will organize a series of events and initiatives across the week to support the hearing impaired and raise the level of societal awareness. Starting in 1974, Arab Deaf Week brings together government and private industry to recognize the hearing impaired under a common theme to encourage the integration of sign language.

The Special Needs Center recently held an online workshop to train participants on the mechanism of fingerspelling, in addition to sharing a number of applications that are designed for the hearing impaired. Of note, visual interpretation was provided to ensure the best outcomes for those in attendance. Activities included the participation of translators from different regions of the Kingdom who interpret and deliver a message conducted by a deaf individual filming a video in sign language, in addition to a message from a deaf person to a hearing person, which was supervised by Professor Khaloufah Al-Shehri.

The events also included an online training workshop delivered by family counselor Salih Dardir entitled "Marital Life Skills", which was interpreted by Ahmed Al-Faifi. The workshop targeted deaf students in the university, with the collaboration of Prof. Manal Al-Hussein and Prof. Reem Asiri under the supervision of Special Needs Center Supervisor's Assistant, Dr. Sereen Al-Bakri. On their part, the female staff of the Women's Center thanked Dr. Amer Jaafar, the supervisor of the Special Needs Center for his support in making this event a success.

The Special Needs Center is committed to providing more services, events, and activities that contribute to supporting people with hearing disabilities and encourage the learning of sign language in society.
