In 1999, the General Assembly approved the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (held in Lisbon) and declared 12 of August International Youth day. The International Youth Day provides an opportunity to celebrate young people, to hear their voices,  see their actions,  validate their initiatives and their meaningful participation, making them universal.
