In a research issued by the professor of Curriculum and Methodologies at the department of Science and Education Technology (Chemistry and Nature) of the King Khalid University (KKU), Prof. Dina Abdul Hamid Saeed Alhtaiby, it is revealed that the child who achieves less than 50% of success throughout the school year, or who fails to pass the school year, or even who fails in one or more subjects, is a slow learner despite the maximum effort done by the parents and the teacher. The child who suffers slow learning is the student who has the ability to learn academic skills, but with an average rate that is lower than his / her peers' in the same age group. The Professor said, "Consequently, such children may drop out of school if they do not get enough attention, and often they hardly complete their secondary education. On the other hand, treatment programs show a significant improvement to the extent that some of these students managed to obtain a college degree. The research proved that the right place for educating these students is the normal classroom with some modifications in the curriculum. So, it becomes necessary to activate the role of the teacher and that of the parents to overcome this problem."

Through this research, the Professor's aim is to shed light on the activities in which the slow learning students find problems. She also stressed its importance in the identification of the role of the teacher and that of the parents to help students to overcome the problems of slow learning. On conclusion of the research, Prof. Dina recommended taking into account the fact that the child who suffers slow learning is not mentally disabled but has some learning difficulties. She also advised the teacher to work against redundancy, and to diversify learning activities by focusing on the main ideas rather than on the details.
