The University Establishes Four Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratories

His Excellency King Khalid University President Prof .Falleh bin Rajallah Al Solami recently issued a decision to establish four artificial intelligence research laboratories , which include the  Natural Language Processing Research Laboratory, the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory in Medicine,  the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory in Education and the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory in Energy.

The Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Hamid bin Majdou 'Al-Qarni, explained that the establishment of these specialized research laboratories are  in frame work of  the university’s interest in scientific research and the field of artificial intelligence in particular.

On his part, the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the University, Dr. Salem bin Fayez Al-Olayani, said  that the four laboratories come under the Center's Research and Development Unit, stressing  that the Natural Language Processing Research Laboratory is concerned with the research and applications of artificial intelligence in language processing and  will   focus  on analyzing, understanding and producing language by machine, through understanding spoken speech, converting speech into text, self-translation, text analysis, and other techniques .

The Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory in Medicine is also concerned with the research and applications of artificial intelligence in the medical field, such as disease detection and diagnosis, using artificial intelligence, medical image processing, medical data analysis, epidemics and disease prediction.

It’s worth noting that the establishment of  the artificial intelligence research and applications laboratories at the university are inline  with the goals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030 vision which aim  to achieve economic prosperity and national development.
