His Excellency, King Khalid University President, Prof. Abdulrahman Hamad Aldawood, has stated that the university believed in its role in the community. Part of that role is guiding talented professional photographers by encouraging them to draw inspiration from the National glorious Day in their snapshots, and perpetuate the day through their cameras. This was stated during a press conference to announce the winners of the first national competition in photography, on the occasion of the 84th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The competition was under the title "Homeland in a photo", which saw the participation of more than 50 cameramen and photographers. In his statement to the media, Aldawood reported that the competition aimed at promoting belonging and national loyalty among members of the community, and the contribution of the university in national events, as well as elaborating the university's name in national competitions through involving large numbers of participants in the national competitions and activities. Aldawood added that such competitions were to encourage young talents, introduce them to the society, and improve their photographing talents, in addition to developing cooperation channels with related associations and institutions.
During the occasion, cash prizes were distributed for 1st places winning works. Prizes estimated at SR 50, 000 were announced by the Supervisor of the Public Administration for the University Relations, who is also the supervisor of the competition, Dr. Mohammad Al-Beheiri. The 1st place was won by Abrar Omar wajee from the city of Jeddah, and the 2nd place winner was Ali Hussein Alkdsi from the city of Abha. Majid Bin Ahmed Altijani also from the city of Abha took the 3rd place, and Nora Rashid Kherfi won the 4th place. The prize of arbitration Committee nominated Owaied Hamad Al Oweid from Al-Qassim region.
At the end of the conference, media professionals took their chances to ask tens of questions. Most of the questions addressed the role of the university in community service through participation in Janadriah Festival this year, in addition to its contribution to the festivals of the province. After that, they talked about the role of the university in educating the community to guard against wrong doings, such as religious, tribal and sports - behaviors. In addition to the development of curricula that are specialized in promoting the culture of belonging and loyalty to the Homeland and the rejection of the principles of extremism and fanaticism.
On this issue, Aldawood indicated that the university was working on a study of the behavior of young people, with the participation of a number of academicians, which would have a serious impact in reducing those phenomena, through the cooperative efforts of a number of governmental and private entities. Regarding the role of curricula, Aldawood pointed out that the university has a specialized committee in the curricula and study plans, headed by a University Vice - President. It is working on reviewing all courses and curriculum, after which it will then be exposed to the University Council, which will in turn, take into account the development and improvement standards in all courses.
