University Pharmacist warns of slimming tablets

A faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy at King Khalid University, Dr. Heba Al-Khatib, warned of taking slimming tablets which are bought at Perfumeries, and from street vendors without a medical prescription. These tablets are very dangerous to health, especially ladies and girls.

This was mentioned during a lecture presented by Dr. Heba at the university Theatre and arranged by the committee of community service at King Khalid University under the title, “Your Beauty and Slimness in Healthy Nutrition” and attended by the Dean of the University Center, Dr. Shynifa Al-Qarni, the Vice-President of the Nursing College, Dr. Adlya Tawfeek, the Assistant Teacher at Nursing College, Dr. Mona Abdulmaksoud as well as a number of teaching staff and students.

Al-Khateeb showed that such tablets are dangerous and have many serious complications for those who take them. They may cause damage to the organs kidneys, and the nervous system, as well as possibly causing depression.

Khateeb explained that following a moderate and balanced diet guarantees weight loss, so a woman becomes slim and beautiful naturally.

Regarding common errors when dieting, Al-Khateeb mentioned that following diets containing only one nutrient is one of nutrition’s common errors. She said, "Your body needs all the nutrients, and the lack of any nutrient causes health problems for the body, for example the lack of fat leads to hair loss and skin wrinkling."

Al-Khateeb also reviewed the most important natural substances that burn fat and cause weight loss, such as curcuma, ginger, olive oil, nuts, and avocado. She pointed out that there are natural foods that work on slimming the abdominal area, which can be suggested to those who suffer from the problem of the rumen, such as almond, eggs, soy, apples, berries, yogurt, and green leafy vegetables.

Regarding fruit, she indicated that they are very important to humans, and that the color of each item has different benefits, for example violet colored fruits prolong life, while the red-colored fruits are useful for heart health, the green ones remove toxins from the body, the yellow ones are beneficial for beauty, the white fruits support the immune system, and orange for eliminating toxins.

Al-Khateeb also stressed drinking a lot of water with lemon because of its great benefits in addition to eating fruit, dried figs, and raisins because they contain the fibers that are essential to the human body.
