Psychotherapy Project Set to Begin

King Khalid University, represented by the Research and Consulting Studies Institute, finalized the national plan to develop a psychiatric and psychotherapy practice. It will operate under the issued approval of the Saudi Health Council under the supervision of His Excellency Minister of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah.

His Excellency King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, explained that the University is keen to support active national partnerships within the framework of the cooperation and partnership agreement signed between King Khalid University and the Saudi Health Council.

Research and Studies Institute Dean, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hadithi, confirmed our ability to manage and implement groundbreaking national partnerships. The plan was executed by a team of specialists from the university led by Dr. Mohammed bin Mari Al-Qahtani. It unveiled multiple national goals and initiatives aimed at improving the profession and psychological health services in accord with Vision 2030.

Three main themes emerged from Al-Qahtani's team: education and training, legislation and laws, and psychotherapy practice. Leading up to the roll-out of the plan, numerous studies marked by highly reliable scientific methodologies were undertaken on the current status of clinical psychology and psychotherapy. It included psychiatrists, patient families, the public, academic specialists, and students specializing in psychology. During the survey, in-depth interviews were conducted with specialists from relevant government bodies such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, the General Authority for Food and Drug Administration, the Ministry of Civil Service, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the National Committee for Mental Health Promotion, the Cooperative Health Insurance Council, and the Saudi Center for Health Facilities Accreditation.
