University Rector opens a symposium on the role of universities in promoting dialogue among civilizations.

His Excellency, the Recor of King Khalid University (KKU), Prof. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Solamy, on Tuesday morning, 14 / 3 / 1438 AH, opened the activities of the symposium on the role of universities in promoting dialogue among civilizations, which is organized by the University, and which is taking place at the University City in Abha, from 14 to 15 / 3 / 1438 AH. In his speech, Rector Al Solamy, welcomed the attendees and the participants to the occasion, noting the importance of the symposium at this time as the world is witnessing different conflicts which strangely exploit religious, sectarian and cultural differences. Rector Al Solamy further stressed the importance of the role of universities as scientific and cultural institutions in promoting dialogue among civilizations. This role could be achieved through holding such seminars and conferences, which makes it possible to find a common agreement among different civilizations and religions. Universities also could participate in promoting dialogue among their students through their courses and curriculum. Rector Al Solamy pointed out that being the destination of Muslims; this blessed country has paid great attention to areas of dialogue. In addition, the Islamic religion encourages respect for the divine religions, adding that King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz World Center for Dialogue Among the followers of the Religions and Cultures in Vienna, Austria, is the best example of our government's commitment to dialogue. Prof. Al Solmy said, "We are looking forward to the success of this symposium. We ask God - the Almighty - to reconcile participants, and we hope to get out of this symposium with recommendations that will serve its objectives and pivots." Rector Al Solamy thanked the speakers and the participants at the symposium sessions, and in addition showing his appreciation of the efforts of the holders of the occasion, as well as the various organizing committees, led by scientific and organization committees. For his part, the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the symposium, Dr. Saleh Abu Arad, said in his speech, that the organization of that symposium came after the university's vision to assert its role as one of the higher education institutions in order to achieve the desired harmony and the positive interaction with various communities regarding their issues, their concerns and their problems. Dr. Abu Arad thanked the Rector of KKU for patronizing the opening ceremony of the symposium, as well as the participating guests for their efforts in the conduct of the symposium, hoping to achieve the desired benefit at the level of the Saudi universities. In turn, on behalf of the participants, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa, Prof. Dhafer Al Shehri, paid tribute to the King Khalid University, which take the responsibility to to bring up that such a sensitive subject, which is the subject of the time, hoping the symposium achieves positive results that would be reflected "on our sons and daughters", said Prof Al Shehri, noting that all Saudi universities have always sought to make the student the center of the educational process. Prof. Al Shehri said, "In our universities, we are in dire need to promote such seminars, because Saudi universities have great duty to manifest the real message of the Islamic Religion which is misunderstood, perhaps the most important part of this message is dialogue among civilizations"
