Under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Asir Region, the King Khalid University (KKU), represented by the Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Center for Research and Environmental Studies, is organizing the 1st Saudi Environmental Conference, under the slogan, "Sustainable Exploitation of Natural Resources." 213 experts who are specialized in environmental matters will participate in the conference, which will be held from 27 to 29 Jumada Alola 1437AH.
The Rector of King Khalid University who is also the General Supervisor of the conference, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al Dawood, has confirmed that Prince Faisal Bin Khalid's patronage of the conference is a continuation of His Highness' unwavering support to all activities related to King Khalid University, and all things that are of benefit and of interest to the public. The Rector said, "The Prince's patronage comes to prove His Highness' care of environment, it is a known fact that the prize of environment preservation and development in Abha has been created by His Royal Highness." Rector Al Dawood further clarified that the 1st Environmental Conference that the University was intending to hold is based on previous studies, which insisted on the importance of holding such conference, and the awareness to the numerous benefits from our natural resources, so that we do not neglect them. Rector Al Dawood added, "Asir region enjoys climatic diversity (mountainous, coastal, and marine), which induced the university to hold such conference. We wish this Conference success"
For his part, the University Vice - President for Research and Scientific Research, who is also the Deputy of the General Supervisor of the conference, Dr. Majid bin Abdul Karim Al Harbi, emphasized that it was an honor for the University that the Governor of Asir region is patronizing and supporting the conference. Dr. Al Harbi said, "The conference gains its reputation from the rapid increase and excessiveness in using natural resources and from the accompanying human habits, which are considered one of the key causes of current environmental problems, such as Climate change, diminishing biodiversity, increase in the rate of desertification, water pollution, air pollution, and soil pollution in Saudi Arabia in general, and in the Asir region in particular." Dr. Al Harbi stated that he has invited a number of spokesmen from the Islamic and Arab worlds, who are specialized in environment issues, as well as spokesmen from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also stated that there would be an accompanying exhibition during the period of holding the conference.
It is worth mentioning that the sessions of the conference will start with a main general session which will be from 9 a.m. to 10.15 a.m. and it will be presented by the guests of the conference (main spokesmen). The first day of the conference will include 4 sessions, after the main session. These 4 sessions will be presented by those who are participating with research papers and worksheets, from inside and outside the Kingdom. The second day of the conference will witness another 4 sessions, after the main session of the day. They are going to be presented by those who are participating with research papers and worksheets, from inside and outside the Kingdom. The third day starts with a main session, followed by a session for the participants' papers, and finally a session for recommendations.
