University Organizes Discussion Session on Flag Day

King Khalid University, represented by the Asir Region History Center, organized a discussion session titled "The Saudi Flag... A Glorious History and Prosperous Present," in the presence of His Excellency the University President, Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Sulami. The session was held at the Exhibitions and Conferences Center in the university city in Al-Fara'a.
The discussion session featured the head of the Founding Day and National History Research Center at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, Prof. Zuhair Al-Shehri, along with the supervisor of the Intellectual Awareness Unit at King Khalid University, Dr. Ahmed Al-Murei'. The session was attended by a number of university vice presidents, deans of colleges and supporting deanships, and university staff.
At the beginning of the session, Dr. Ahmed Murei' pointed out the importance of celebrating Flag Day as a national symbol that embodies Saudi history under the wise leadership – may God support them; clarifying the role of educational institutions in educating the youth on the connotations of the national flag, in a way that achieves loyalty and belonging in their souls, and enhances the values of true citizenship for the Kingdom over the past three centuries, noting that it is a timeless value, a symbol of pride and loftiness, and an indication of the feelings of cohesion, love, and loyalty stemming from the spirit of belonging and loyalty to the leadership and the nation.
For his part, Prof. Zuhair Al-Shehri stressed that the Saudi flag carries the meanings of belonging, values, and citizenship, embodies the concept of the state, and expresses national unity and the historical depth of the nation over nearly three centuries, as the flag witnessed the unification of the Saudi state in all its stages, noting that the history of the Saudi flag dates back to the banner carried by the imams of the Saudi state, pointing out that Flag Day expresses sovereignty, independence, and national unity, which requires all sectors to celebrate it, and recall the glories of the wise leadership – may God protect them – in building a solid state and civilization.
The session focused on the importance of enhancing the role of the Saudi flag in the educational community, consolidating the concept of preserving the flag, and focusing on the role of educational institutions in this regard. Following that, interventions were allowed from the guests who enriched the session with their discussions and contributions.
At the conclusion of the discussion session, His Excellency the University President honored the speakers in the session for their cultural and historical enrichment on this occasion.
