King Khalid University Launches the Holy Quran Competition and the "‘Ilm" Ramadan Initiative
King Khalid University’s College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion, represented by the Department of the Quran and Its Sciences, in collaboration with the University's Business and Community Partnership Agency and the Deanship of Student Affairs, has launched the Holy Quran Competition and Ramadan Programs for the year 1446 AH. The initiative aims to promote Islamic values, foster community engagement, and encourage a culture of reverence for the Holy Quran. Additionally, it seeks to support participants in enhancing their recitation and memorization skills throughout the blessed month of Ramadan. Furthermore, the college, through the Department of Hadith and Its Sciences, has introduced the "‘Ilm" initiative to strengthen scientific recitation by enabling the study and transmission of Hadith and scholarly books with a continuous chain of narration, benefiting individuals both locally and internationally.
The Dean of the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion, Professor Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Qarni, emphasized that the competition reflects the university’s commitment to fostering a deep connection with the Holy Quran among its students, faculty, and the broader community. The competition features several specialized programs, including the "A‘dhab Tilawah" (Sweetest Recitation) competition, which honors the most beautiful Quranic recitations among university students. Another key competition, "Ramadank Quran", provides an opportunity for students to compete in Quran memorization and Tajweed mastery. Additionally, a community-wide open competition for Quran memorization is available, allowing individuals from the broader society to participate and strengthen their connection to the Quran through recitation, memorization, and contemplation.
Al-Qarni further explained that the programs include Ijazah (recitation certification) sessions, designed to help students refine their recitation and perfect the rules of Tajweed under the supervision of experts. Moreover, a series of Quranic seminars and workshops will be held, focusing on various scientific and reflective aspects of the Quran, thereby deepening participants' understanding and awareness of the Holy Book.
Regarding the "‘Ilm" initiative, Al-Qarni stated that it aims to promote scholarly recitation by facilitating the study and transmission of Hadith and scholarly books with a connected chain of narration. The initiative aspires to enrich scientific knowledge, develop scholarly competence, and enhance the role of university professors in academic mentorship, furthering the college’s contribution to the dissemination of Islamic sciences.
These programs will run throughout the month of Ramadan, with total prize rewards exceeding 50,000 SAR to recognize outstanding participants and support their engagement in these initiatives. This effort aligns with the university’s mission to serve the community and uphold Islamic values.
