King Khalid University, in cooperation with Monash University and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), launched a project to provide advisory services to study ways to prevent forest fires and address their effects in the forests of the southern and southwestern regions, which include Asir, Makkah, Taif, Madinah, Al-Baha, Najran, and Jazan.

Dr. Rahma Al-Shahrani, the director of the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Center for Research, Environmental Studies, and Tourism, described the project's six stages. The first stage is preparatory, and the second stage is concerned with evaluating the state of the forest sites and creating a database that includes a fire early detection system.

The third stage intends to research the principles, strategies, and procedures for dealing with forest fires before, during, and after the fires, as well as the needs for rehabilitation. Work plans and the system of necessary technical equipment are included in the fourth stage.

Project management, work governance, and implementation principles are represented in the fifth stage, while the sixth stage deals with the development of anticipated projects from advisory services for the following stages based on the most recent data of the completed projects and what has been accomplished.
