University Hosts an Environmental, Social and Economic Impact Assessment Workshop, for the Initiative to Rehabilitate Agricultural terraces

King Khalid University, represented by the institute of Consulting Research and Studies recently organized a workshop for the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture initiative to rehabilitate agricultural traces and implement rain water harvesting system in the south west region go the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Through this workshop the ministry and its partners aim to identify the social and psychological impact of the initiative, on the agricultural and economical activity growth with in the agricultural community .

The ministry’s undersecretary Eng. Ahmed Alayadah pointed to a number of projects that have been successful achieved since the inauguration of the initiative and which include :the rehabilitation of more than 2,500 sites, in addition to 6000 beneficiary , and the cultivation of more than one million diverse and economic seedlings, most notably "coffee, pomegranate and figs", stressing, that these results will contribute to a rise in the food security index in the Kingdom.

On his part, King Khalid University’s Vice Dean for Business and Knowledge Economy, Prof. Dr. Abdullatif Al-Hadithi, said that the university is keen on supporting its society and the kingdom’s vision 2030, through its scientific projects and research. While the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cooperative Societies, Dr. Abdullah Kadman, explained the council is keen on cooperative participatory economy approaches between farmers and businesses to support this project.

It is worth noting that the initiative, in general, looks aims to achieve sustainable water resources, improve food security index in the Kingdom, and contribute to the promotion of local social and economic development in targeted areas. The initiative also aims to convert many farms into tourist farms, which in turn will create job opportunities and contribute to reducing unemployment rates, and attract tourists locally and regionally.
